Saturday 7th December was The World’s Big Sleep Out where 50,000 people slept out in major cities across the world with the aim of raising enough funds to give a hand up to 1,000,000 homeless and displaced people both locally and globally. Trafalgar Square was the hub in London seeing nearly 2,000 people sleep outside in the elements.

Local homeless charity, The Connection at St Martin’s, were heavily involved on the night showcasing the great work they do as well as highlighting the wealth of talent and passion that comes from many of their clients.

The Gardening Group created a living wall for the site having received training from landscaping company Scotscape. The St Martin’s Orchestra got the amazing opportunity to perform alongside Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and Travis. The Enterprise Team, consisting of five clients and two staff, kept those sleeping out warm by serving teas and coffees having received training from coffee roasters Allpress Espresso. While guests were able to peruse art from the Art Group and read poems from the Creative Writing Group.

A fantastic opportunity to raise both awareness and funds, as well as providing the opportunity for clients to receive skills based training, the World’s Big Sleep Out has been a success all round.

With special thanks to Scotscape, Evergreen Exterior and Allpress Espresso for their sponsorship and training opportunities.
